The book presents a detailed, almost mile-by-mile, look at the history and the present condition of the trail which, in Colorado, was largely followed in the construction of Interstate 25, crossing into Wyoming, then westerly to Fort Bridger. An interesting, well produced, book discussing the various boundaries that existed in Colorado and Wyoming dividing the land west and east of the Continental Divide between Spain and the holder of the territory known as Louisiana (generally either the French or the Spanish). It also discusses the mthod by which the rights of the Indians to the land in question was extinguished by Court deicision and conquest. The book is clean, bright, sound and unworn. The plain white paper jacket is lightly soiled and darkened with a shadow caused by a book having been placed on the front cover leaving a brighter outline. The jacket is missing a dime-sized piece near the foot of the spine with an associated tear. There is a rather messy vertical crease about an inch inside the front flap fold, a short edge tear at top left front panel; and some minor edge wear otherwise. Vol VI was bound without a title page so the date is inferred from the latest dated entries. The marbling of the paper differs a little: Vols. I to III are the same; Vols. IV and V match; Vols. VI and VIII match; and Vol. VII matches none. All volumes are soundly bound, clean and unmarked. The wear to the covers is fairly even. Corners of vols.
